Professor Kirill Horoshenkov

Summary

Prof Horoshenkov. Kirill's expertise is in outdoor sound propagation, acoustic materials and instrumentation. His work has been supported by external research grants from industry and government amounting to over £3 million. He has been involved actively in the professional life of the acoustic community in the UK and overseas, serving as a member of the Engineering Division Committee of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Committee (EPSRC) Peer Review College, Associate Editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Journal of Applied Acoustics and the Journal of Acta Acoutsica (United with Acustica). He has authored/co-authored two books, over 100 journal and conference papers and has successfully submitted four patent applications. In recognition of his contribution to the field of acoustics, he was awarded the prestigious Tyndall Medal by the Institute of Acoustics in 2006.

Kirill currently works on a number of research projects related to acoustics. These projects are focused on advanced acoustic sensors for monitoring the conditions in pipes and open channels, sound scattering by dynamically rough surfaces and on the development of sustainable materials for noise control. A majority of funding for this work comes from the EPSRC, the Royal Society and EU FP7. His key industrial partners are Yorkshire Water Services, Mouchel Consulting, Armacell and Kingspan. He has strong academic and industrial links in Europe, the Far East and North America.
